Education

  • 2015–2019
Doctor of Philosophy

Thesis title: Simulation and analysis of surface wind fields during landfalling tropical cyclones
The PhD project seeks to explore how changes in surface terrain conditions and the presence of topography influence the tropical cyclone boundary layer kinematic structure and its evolution throughout the landfall process.

  • 2011–2014
Master of Science

Master title: Verification of an objective technique for tropical cyclone detection
A new tropical cyclone detection scheme is applied to global numerical weather prediction model analyses and verified for the first time

  • 2008–2011
Bachelor of Science

Bachelor title: Signatures of thunderstorm tracks in SYNOP observations
The project sets out to determine persevering patterns in the development of surface parameters like pressure and temperature during a thunderstorm event.

Experience

  • 07/2017–11/2017
Visiting Scientist
at National Center of Atmospheric Research (NCAR)

Reconstructing a small number of high-impact tropical cyclone events over Australia and the USA with a particular focus on the near-surface wind field throughout the landfall process.
Preliminary idealised parametric simulations exploring the role of terrain and topography in defining the tropical cyclone boundary layer at landfall.
